Case Details:
On 11/28/2024 at 0329 hours, Douglas County Dispatch received multiple 911 calls of a wrong way driver on I94 Mile Marker 114. Dispatch was informed a pickup truck was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of I94. Deputies responded and located the vehicle near Mile Marker 106 traveling west in the eastbound lanes of I94. Deputies were able to pin and block the vehicle utilizing their patrol vehicles. A Douglas County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle and the suspect vehicle sustained minor damage.
The driver showed significant signs of impairment and was arrested for driving under the influence. The driver provided a breath sample, with the resulting breath alcohol content being three and a half times the legal limit for operating a motor vehicle. The driver will spend Thanksgiving weekend at the Douglas County Jail and will appear before a judge after the holiday weekend. The driver is facing multiple criminal charges and civil penalties. It is extremely fortunate nobody was seriously injured or killed during this incident.
Statistics show an increase in DWI arrests and alcohol-related crashes during the holidays. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office want to remind everyone to plan a sober ride, slow down, and drive carefully during the holidays and the winter season.
