The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Snowmobile Patrol consists of department deputy sheriffs who provide coverage outside of their regularly scheduled hours.
These deputies provide coverage on the Central Lakes Trail and DATA trails system located in Douglas County. The patrol is generally funded by grants from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Douglas County is known for providing a host of recreational activities including snowmobiling. By providing snowmobile patrol coverage, the department strives to ensure that all participants have a safe and enjoyable time while riding the trails. This is accomplished through both education and enforcement. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assists with the Snowmobile Safety class as well as speaking at various events.
The department maintains two Ski-Doo snowmobiles as well as an Orion Ambulance Sled. This sled trailer is used to assist in the transportation of injured people, such as cross country skiers and snowmobilers who are in isolated areas and need medical assistance.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office recommends all riders take a certified snowmobile safety class. Please ride responsibly. Respect the property of others. Stay on the trails. Be courteous, and do not drink alcoholic beverages and ride. Be safe so you and others can continue to enjoy all Douglas County has to offer.
