Details: On August 29th, 2024 at approximately 8:12 AM, The Douglas County Sheriff's Office received a report of a two-vehicle accident on Co Rd 3 NE at the intersection with Co Rd 73 NE in Osakis Township. During the investigation of the accident, deputies learned that a 2019 Ford F-350 towing an enclosed horse trailer driven by a 17-year old female was traveling northbound on Co Rd 3 NE. As the Ford approached the intersection with Co Rd 73, a 2024 Hyundai Elantra driven by Saifullah Iftikhar was traveling eastbound on Co Rd 73 NE and failed to stop for a stop sign. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage.
Iftikhar was able to exit the Hyundai and was transported by North Memorial Ambulance to Alomere Health Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The female driver of the Ford was extricated from the vehicle by the Osakis Fire Department and was treated for minor injuries on scene by North Memorial Ambulance.
A horse was in the horse trailer at the time of the accident and with the assistance of several members of the community, the horse was safely removed from the trailer and transported away from the scene with unknown injuries.
The Douglas County Sheriffs Office was assisted by Osakis Fire Department, Osakis First Responders, North Memorial Ambulance and the MN DNR.
