Details: On 9/10/2024, at approximately 1209 hours, Douglas County Dispatch received a 911 phone call reporting a canoe had capsized on Lake Carlos in front of the State Park with 3 juveniles in it. The caller stated the kids were still in the water and possibly trapped under the canoe.
While emergency services were enroute, the juveniles were able to make it to shore on their own. All of the juveniles were accounted for and found wearing their Personal Flotation Devices. Deputies learned that three juveniles were in the canoe that capsized, and another canoe with two juveniles was with them. None of the juveniles were harmed in the incident.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Carlos State Park Rangers and the MN DNR. The Sheriff's Office would like to remind the public of the importance of wearing personal flotation devices while participating in water related recreational activities.
